Voting So Far - Get Out the Vote!
LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER! Your VOTE is your VOICE and your Civic Duty. While Democrats have turned in more ballots than Republicans and Unaffiliated, it is widely known that Republicans tend to wait until election day. Please VOTE and encourage everyone you know to VOTE. Our school boards are important influencers in our community and have a large impact on our children's education. The republicans have circumvented our voters by having a member step down after the election

No Kings - No Ice
Our No Kings event was a HUGE Success! Thanks to everyone who turned out and helped out. We appreciate our local Press and Colorado Public Radio showing up and also the support of local law enforcement. Hopefully our next event will draw even larger crowds. Many people signed the posters Opposing ICE. We presesnted the posters to the County Commissioners and Walsenburg City Council on Tuesday, October 21st. School Board Opening
We are in the middle of School Board Elections in both RE-1 Walsenburg and RE-2 La Veta. The RE-1 election has three openings and four candidates. This would have been a seamless transition and would have eliminated the cost of an election. Now the fourth

10 Effective Things Citizens Can Do to Make Change - What Happens Now?
Thanks to all who came out for the No Kings Rally. We were over 170 citizens strong. This is an important part of the movement to save our Democracy. "The end of American democracy is not a foregone conclusion, despite the unprecedented rate of its decline. It will depend, in part, on the choices made by every American." Political science scholars and national security experts agree that the current U.S. administration’s actions are indeed placing the world’s oldest continu

Vote For Our Kids
Healthy School Meals for ALL Proposition LL and MM provide funding for our children. Some people argue against this saying it is a new tax. They are right. MM is a new tax if you make over $ 299,000. How many people in our county do you think will be in this group? Proposition LL allows the state to keep the money they have already collected for these programs. In addition, MM includes funding for programs that encourage the purchase of products grown, raised and processed

Cowboy Culture Was Always an Immigrant Culture: Duke Beardsley on Reimagining Western Art
"In our current weird world, we have lost sight of the fact that cowboy culture was always an immigrant culture.” Beardsley allows for tradition in his works, but he also challenges the past, imagines the present and constantly questions the romanticization of the West. Walking into Duke Beardsley ’s Denver studio, two things quickly become clear: This is the home of an artist and of a cowboy. Both are identities that Beardsley inhabits with equal parts pride and uncertainty
