School Board Opening

We are in the middle of School Board Elections in both RE-1 Walsenburg and RE-2 La Veta. The RE-1 election has three openings and four candidates. After the ballots were sent, a board member, Sadie Wardell, resigned. The timing is telling. If it would have been public sooner, all four candidates would have been seated and it would not have been on the ballot. This would have been a seamless transition and would have eliminated the cost of an election. Now the fourth opening will be filled by the school board (not the voters) and interested parties must submit a Letter of Intent.
While there is speculation regarding the timing of this action, we can only respond to the current situation; hopefully in a positive way. If you care about our schools, please consider putting your hat in the ring for this important role in our community.
Public interviews will be held November 10th.
Let's hope our school board chooses a well qualified candidate that cares about our children first.
