TONIGHT’S DEBATE WILL BE ABOUT TWO DIFFERENT VISIONS OF AMERICA
This debate is about two drastically different visions of America: the Harris-Walz vision of a New Way Forward for our country where everyone — in Red and Blue states, in urban and rural communities — has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead, versus the Trump-Vance plan to drag our country backwards.
While JD Vance will be the mouthpiece tonight, it’s Donald Trump’s extreme and dangerous Project 2025 agenda that will take center stage. Vance will use this platform to push policies that would give Trump unprecedented, unchecked power to roll back Americans’ rights and freedoms, raise costs for the middle class, and threaten our democracy.
Governor Walz will come to the debate prepared to share Vice President Harris’ vision for a New Way Forward for our country that finally turns the page on Trump and builds a future where our freedoms are protected and anything is possible, with hard work and ambition.
ABOUT GOVERNOR WALZ
In picking Governor Walz, Vice President Harris chose someone who shares her vision and who will be a great governing partner as they deliver for working families and cement the contrast with Trump’s Project 2025 agenda.
As a lifelong Midwesterner, Governor Walz understands regular folks. He spent summers working on his family farm, coached high school football and led the team to a state championship for the first time in the school’s history, served as a Command Sergeant Major in the Army National Guard and went to college on the GI bill. He and his wife, Gwen – a fellow teacher – went through fertility treatments to have their daughter, Hope.
Walz won his first race in a GOP district by representing farmers and rural America. He is one of just two Democrats to represent the district in over 100 years, holding his seat through the Tea Party wave and Trump’s 2016 win. In Congress, he forged compromises and took action for vets. He led successful bipartisan efforts to pass a bill to provide mental health services to veterans and expand the GI Bill, and repeatedly voted to increase military funding.
As Governor, he cut taxes for working families, lowered the price of insulin and protected women’s right to choose.
