KSPK Interview HD47 Candidate Meyers

Last week, we were informed that our local radio station, KSPK, had Ty Winter (HD47) on for an interview to talk about his accomplishments in the legislature this session. Some folks reached out with concerns about KSPK Radio doing an interview with Republican Colorado HD47 State Legislator Ty Winter and not having one with his November Democratic opponent, Vic Meyers.

We asked folks to contact the station to ask for equal time.

In addition, our Vice-Chair reached out to the station manager for further clarification. We would like to share that response:

 The interview on KSPK was described by the station as a legislative wrap-up It was presented as a news segment to summarize bills that Winter had worked on and the results in his job as an elected official. Because it was a wrap-up of a legislative session,  KSPK is under NO obligation to give Meyers equal time. However, the station did AGREED to reach out to Meyers and give him an interview.

The first interview is airing TODAY

with a follow-up interview scheduled for early next week.

   Because the candidates are not competing against each other in the June primary, KSPK is NOT obligated to give equal time to both until after the June primary elections. As the November elections get closer, KSPK is planning to host a debate between the candidates to give voters an opportunity to know where the candidates stand on issues for HD47. 

   I hope this clarifies the various election rules and regulations to all who reached out and for those of you who wanted to know what was up. The station did hear from a number of individuals and expressed emphatically that the station has always been willing to present both sides so voters can make a decision.
