The Huerfano Dems Mother Jones Fundraising Dinner is coming up in 10 days on Saturday, April 18th. Please order your tickets this week.
It is time to remember the Ludlow Massacre on April 20, 1914, and the work of Mother Jones on behalf of miners, women, and children. The Huerfano County Democratic Party’s Mother Jones Dinner is our largest fundraising event supporting the party throughout the year.
This year, our event will take place at the Huerfano County Community Center, 928 Russell St., Walsenburg, CO 81089 (at West 10th St.).
There will be many highlights to this year’s event, including our Silent Auction, a wonderful dinner* provided by Trujillo Catering, the Cash Bar provided by the Crafty Canary Brewery, appearances from other State and County Dignitaries, Candidates for Local and Statewide Offices, and so much more! Doors open at 5 with appetizers and dinner at 6.
Our event is an opportunity for community members, public servants, candidates, newly registered voters, and local businesses from around Colorado to come together to celebrate great things happening in democracy and Huerfano County. Funds raised at our event will help further HCDP’s mission to engage, inform, and motivate our citizens, and encourage voting in our County.

This is a pivotal year for American democracy. Institutions that have long protected the rights of citizens and residents alike are under strain, and fundamental freedoms — including the right to peaceful, lawful protest — are being tested. Recent efforts to expand government monitoring and data collection, including labeling individuals involved in nonviolent protest as potential security threats, raise serious concerns about civil liberties and the proper limits of government power. Presidential War Powers are being stretched beyond their legal limit. In a democracy, dissent is not extremism — it is a constitutional right. We believe in an America where institutions are strong, accountable, and protective of individual freedom. We believe in a country where people can speak, organize, and advocate without fear of being unfairly targeted. These rights allow us to flourish as a society. Small businesses, farmers, students, and professionals alike benefit from a strong democracy.
Together, we can strengthen our democracy and defend the rights that define it. As Democrats, we must lead with courage and deliver real improvements in the lives of people across this nation.
