I was at the Colorado Rockies game when I heard that President Biden had decided to drop out of the election this November. By the time the game was over (Rox lost 3-2) and I was headed back home to Walsenburg, listening to MSNBC on Sirius XM, Kamala Harris had already received 30 million dollars in small donor donations (which is now over 50 million), several states delegates had pledged their support for her (the Colorado State Central Committee of which I am a member will discuss and likely vote on this tonight), and many of those in Congress that wanted Biden to step aside had come out in support of her.
So, all of a sudden, Dems are mostly uniting around Harris in order to move forward. Joe Manchin had talked about entering the race but Harris has the momentum going forward. There will of course be questions of whether voters will elect a woman as President, especially a black woman. I think it will be a great step forward for America.. Harris has mostly been a behind-the-scenes VP, which many are, but she is a very smart lady and will only get better in her public appearances as the campaign goes on. (Oh no, I just heard on TV that she likes anchovies on her pizza. That could be a deal breaker ).
We need to move forward now and NOT have a divided DNC convention in mid-August. We need to go on the offensive and take Trump down. It looks like it will now be the Prosecutor (she was one) versus the convicted felon. I'll keep you informed of any other developing issues involving this story. For those of us who supported Joe Biden to the end, rest assured much of his agenda will continue to advance under Harris and her running mate.
A quick thought on who she chooses as her running mate. My thought is she will pick a white male from a swing state that we need to win the Electoral College. That would mean Mark Kelly of Arizona or Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania would be likely candidates although the outgoing governor of North Carolina has been mentioned along with half a dozen other people who are not in swing states. That will be her decision and we will know likely prior to the convention beginning Aug. 19th.
That's all for now. I hope you are excited that the Dems seem to be pulling together now that President Biden has decided to end his election campaign. He is and will be remembered as one of our great Presidents. He will still have his hand in helping Harris and her VP pick get elected and I'm sure he will be a valued mentor during her Presidency.
